About MeIf you know me, you know where I'm from and where I am now. If you don't, let me enlighten you. I'm from a little town on the NC coast. I spent my first 18 years in NC, from there I moved to the Big Island where I spent the next 3 years (finishing High School at Parker School, then just living island life). From the Big Island I moved to San Diego to start school and the next chapter of my life. After spending 5 years in San Diego (and meeting Linda) we moved north to Orange County. In 2000 we moved further north to the Seattle Area to start a family and get the heck out of California. As much as I love California, there is something to be said about living in the green PNW.
Currently I work for Microsoft, on one of the Redmond Campuses (as you can imagine there are a lot of 'campuses'). As most people that work at Microsoft I consider myself some what of a Geek. I've been passionate about computers and tech stuff since playing with my first Commodore Vic 20 (complete with tape drive). From there it was a Commodore 64, Trash80, Apple IIE, IIG (in school labs). As a student at Jacksonville High School I learned Pascal with an amazing teacher (Mrs. Griffin). In College it was all about Networking and learning the basics (of the new PC market). I took some time off from Tech to study Physical Sciences (as I was thinking of Nursing or Massage therapy). But the true inner Geek wouldn't go away and so in the mid 90s I jumped back in with both feet. Since then I've worked my way through the world of IT:
What do I like to spend my time doing when I'm not in the office? I love to cook; I'll make anything (at least once). I love to browse recipes, get in the kitchen and lose myself chopping and whisking. I also love to hike, garden, read (I listen to more books than I actually 'read' (and according to Linda it's NOT reading)) and spend time playing with my wife and children. I find life interesting, fulfilling, maddening, crazy and wonderful all at the same time. I've held many different jobs over the years, moving from industry to industry. I find this has built a well rounded view of people, work and life in general. I've waited tables, rented cars (washed'm to boot), been in sales, swept floors, worked on logistics and registration at conferences, done customer service work for a non-profit, been a recruiter and held almost every job in the IT sector. I enjoy what I do now, the company I work for and the people I work with. I like things easy and straightforward. I'm not afraid of hard work, I actually really enjoy it; but I like to keep things simple. I think the more we complicate stuff the more chances we have to screw it up. It's always a bit risky putting information like this out for the world to see since nothing you put on the web every really goes away. But at the same time, nothing ventured nothing gained. |
